Writing Update – January 2025

I didn’t make my revision goal. I wanted to have draft 3 all done by the 17th, but I’m only halfway through. Behold my list of excuses!

  • Prologue and first 3 chapters needed heavy rewrites
  • Had COVID over New Year
  • Thought I needed to add a scene in the middle of the novel to develop Milo and Iona’s relationship. Got stuck for several days. Wrote two thirds of the scene plus some extra fluff that I knew I was going to cut. Decided to cut all of it and just do better at including their relationship in the existing scenes. Decided not to cut it after all. Still waffling.
  • Worked on some marketing like this website and my email list instead.

So we’re still chugging along, but it’s going to be even slower now that school has started back up. The professor assures us that this is one of the most labor-intensive courses in the program. 😱

My new goal is to finish this draft by February 19. That means I only have to edit half a chapter a day. That should be doable even with schoolwork! (I just hope every weekend won’t come with 150 pages of assigned reading like this one did.)
