About

Hi! I’m A. E. Henry, and I write about spaceships and dragons.

I live in the Midwest with my wife, one-year-old daughter, and three cats. I love reading, writing, running, and playing complicated board games.

Right now, I’m in the revision process for Not by Sword, a science fiction adventure story that I’m planning to self-publish later this year.

I fell in love with reading as a little kid. I remember my mom reading the Magic Tree House books by Mary Pope Osborne to my sister and me. At some point I started reading them myself, and then I read Osborne’s Greek mythology collection over and over again. One day, I picked up a Harry Potter book someone had given to my mom (I think she was trying to decide if it was witchcraft or not), and then it was all over. I tore through YA adventures like Narnia, Midnight for Charlie Bone, the Alex Rider series, and Gregor the Overlander. (Does it make me cool that I read Suzanne Collins before The Hunger Games? 😂) Then I moved on to SFF for big kids: Dragonlance, Ender’s Game, the Lord of the Rings, Dune, Lewis’ Screwtape Letters and Space Trilogy. As an adult, some of my favorites have been Sanderson’ Cosmere, Leckie’s Radch books, Brent Weeks’ Lightbringer series, anything Bujold, and Iain M. Banks’ Culture novels.

The earliest memory I have of writing is sitting at the family computer in the basement typing an alternate universe fanfic involving Padmé, Spock, Peregrine Took, evil assassins, and lots of passive voice. I’ve never really stopped since then! I’ve always struggled with finishing projects, and while I’ve started writing 20 or so novels, I’ve finished precisely three. Two of those will be published in the next couple years; the other will never be read by anyone else ever. (There I go with passive voice again. 🙄)

Thanks for visiting my website, and I hope you have half as much fun reading my work as I did writing it!
