I’ve got an editor now! I did a lot of soul-searching and researching to determine what kind of editing I would need, and then talked to several editors on Reedsy to get an idea of pricing and how each phase of editing would work.
At first, I was hesitant about shelling out money for a developmental edit. I’m self-publishing, and I have no guarantee of making any money, especially on my debut novel, so it’s difficult to spend more than absolutely necessary. But I want to write the best books that I possibly can, and a substantial content edit from an experienced professional is going to help this book, and it’s going to help me learn and grow.
I’ve got a spot reserved in my editor’s calendar at the end of March, so that is my absolute deadline for any revisions that I want her to see and provide feedback on. With that in mind, I would like to finish this edit (3rd Draft) by the end of February, then get a small number of focused beta readers to give it a once over, make a few more smaller changes, and send it off to my editor at the end of March!
I’ll be back with another update next month!
